Gary Bradshaw founded the Cycling Without Age program in Ottawa in 2016. Originating in Copenhagen, Denmark, Cycling Without Age is a non-profit organization that provides seniors with the experience to get outside and see nature close up from the bicycle and also gives them an opportunity to tell their stories in the environment where they have lived their lives. Since its inception in 2012, Cycling Without Age has since expanded to over 38 countries around the world
After visiting Copenhagen and realizing the potential, Gary reached out to municipal and provincial representatives to bring the program to his hometown. He partnered with the Bruyere / RSL Long Term Care Home to establish the program making it the first of its kind in Ontario. Gary is now working to expand the program with other long term care facilities in Ottawa and the surrounding area. He is also sharing his experiences with other volunteer groups in other provinces to help advance the program across Canada.
